COURSE DESCRIPTION: Pronouncing American English is a class for adults who speak American Engilsh as an acquired language. You will be introduced to pronunciation, pitch, rate, pausing, rhythm, and best use of voice for individual and group interactions. You will learn and practice practical approaches for improving pronunciation of American English in social and academic settings.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- Learn to recognize, identify, and demonstrate the use of pitch in speech.
- Learn to hear and pronounce sounds that that you cannot say at this time.
- Identify and learn techniques to vary loudness, pitch, rate and rhythm.
- The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) will be used to teach sounds (memorization not required).
- Learn to describe and demonstrate body language that contributes to or impairs communication.
- Learn to identify and self-evaluate verbal and nonverbal traits that affect individual communication effectiveness.
